Candidates for the U.S. Presidential Scholars

Hyvolt seniors Justin Du, Rachel Fan, Richard Li and Jefferson Wang were selected by the U.S. Department of Education as the candidates for the U.S. Presidential Scholars. Of the 3.6 million high school seniors graduating this year, only 4500 students were selected (1 in 1000!)

Emily Sun received a perfect score in ACT

Congratulations to Emily Sun who received a perfect score of 36 in ACT last December. Only one-tenth of one percent of students who take the ACT score a perfect 36! Emily is a freshman at Collierville High School and long-time Memphis Chinese School student. Her achievement was reported on Channel 5 of WMC Action News.

National Merit Semifinalists for 2018

Congratulations to the following awesome hardworking Hyvolt seniors: Justin Du, Rachel Fan, Richard Li and Jefferson Wang. They are named National Merit Semifinalists for 2018. The semifinalists represent less than 1% of high school seniors. This is a big national merit Announcement. Finalists will be noticed in February.

Rachel Fan Won President’s Volunteer Service Award

Rachel Fan, our mathcount class instructor, has received President’s Volunteer Service Award. She is also a 2017 state distinguished finalist in Prudential Spirit of Community Award.

Daniel Ma was Nominated for The Commercial Appeal’s Academic All-Stars Award

Daniel Ma, another high school senior from our school, was nominated for The Commercial Appeal’s Academic All-Stars Award. Daniel is a great kid who started at Highland at young age. Daniel not only excels academically, but also in swimming and music. Daniel is also a 2016 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program Candidate.

Joey He, who is the second HyVolt member this year, was nominated for The Commercial Appeal’s Academic All-Stars Award.

Winners in TMTA Math Contest

Congratulations to our students who placed in the top 10 of the 2015 Tennessee Mathematics Teachers Association (TMTA) Math Contest. They are Richard Li (Geometry), Jefferson Wang (Geometry), Justin Du (Algebra II), Jia Liang (Statistics), Yunhua Zhao (Calculus), and Tony Chen (Calculus)! We also have quite a few students placed in the West Region Top 10.

Tony Chen was Nominated for The Commercial Appeal’s Academic All-Stars, General Scholarship Award

Tony Chen holds a leadership position with our HyVolt organization. He was nominated as a candidate for The Commercial Appeals Academic All-Stars, General Scholarship award.

Five Students Won National Merit Awards

Among the 15 local seniors winning $2,500 National Merit awards, 5 are from our school. They are: Yunhua Zhao (MUS), Richard Ouyang (MUS), Yuxie Xiao (WSHS), Xiaohan Xue (WSHS) and Kelly Yuan (WSHS).

Six Students were Named US Presidential Scholars Program Candidates

Six of our students were named US Presidential Scholars Program candidates. They are: Austin Erwin (CHS), Roger Li (CHS), Richard Ouyang (MUS), Yunhua Zhao (MUS), Xiaohan Xue (WSHS) and Kelley Yuan (WSHS); three of them (Roger Li, Richard Ouyang and Kelly Yuan) made to the semifinalist list. Richard Ouyang has been named one of 141 U.S. Presidential Scholars for 2015.

Grand Award Winners

Roger Li and Richard Ouyang were named 2014-2015 Grand Award Winner, General Scholarship, public school division and private school division respectively.

Richard Ouyang was Awarded a Silver Medal USAPHO

Richard Ouyang was awarded a Silver Medal at the USA Physics Olympiad (USAPHO), the best performance in Tennessee. See here.

Rachel Fan Led eCYBERMISSION STEM to Win eCYBERMISSION Competitions

The eCYBERMISSION STEM led by Rachel Fan at White Station High won the South-East regional (KY, TN, NC, SC, GA, AL, and FL) of the 2014-2015 eCYBERMISSION competitions in 9th grade category! Each team member received $3,000 savings bond. The team is heading to the national competition in Washington, DC on June 15-19. The 4-perpson team was also the national finalist of the 2013-2014 eCYBERMISSION competitions in the 8th grade category and was featured in both Commercial Appeal and Action News 5.
